Marketing is important to any brand or business – especially yours! Communicating to your audience inside and outside the salon is crucial to bringing in new clients and maintaining current ones. However, figuring out what to post, how often, and what you want your personal brand to look like can be difficult. Here are our top 3 marketing hacks to get you started!
Consistency and Content Usage
You will hear from absolutely anybody that when it comes to marketing and posting, consistency is key, and that is the absolute truth. When you are consistent with your posting, it lets your clients know that you are on top of things and care about the hair you are creating. It also allows for more traffic to your page, which is more business for you! This may feel daunting, but it can be really simple. Many think you can only post your content once and only on one platform. In reality, that one piece of content is 5-10 more posts, and here’s why. Say you create a video of you doing a full highlight and extension transformation. You did all this work and feel like you can only post it to Instagram Reels. In actuality, that is now a TikTok, Pinterest post, Instagram Stories post, and more.
You can reuse your content on other platforms and do it multiple times by cutting clips out of it to drive more traffic and click to your page. Example: You take that video and post it as is. Then you take a clip out of that video and make an at home hair care video. Then you go make three Pinterest posts out of what you said in your video about home care. All of those posts are from one piece of content. Consistency and reusing previous content are the easiest and most efficient ways to boost your marketing for your brand as a hairstylist.
Confidence in Posting
Next, what comes into play is your content creation and actual posting. The number one thing people think when it comes to posting is “My content is not good enough” or “I have no idea what content to come up with.” We're here to tell you- everything is content. Content planning doesn’t have to be hard—just start seeing your everyday work as potential content. Whether you are opening up the salon, doing a full hair transformation, or even unboxing and restocking products you use, it is all content. Pull out your phone and record.
This lets your clients see what you are doing during the day, what your typical appointment may look like, what products you use, and can give an insight into who you are, which is always a selling point! The behind-the-scenes content makes it more personable and gives an idea of what your life is like as a hairstylist. Once you have your content ready, you might catch yourself thinking, 'Ugh, I really don’t like how that one highlight looks on camera.' Pause—and post it anyway. It’s totally fine to make light edits to your video or photos, but try not to be overly critical. The tiny details you notice are often things no one else will ever see! Trust in your talent and let that confidence shine through in your posts.
Branding and Marketing Apps
Our last hack is branding. We have a previous blog post on the importance of branding (read more here!), but it is also one of our top hacks in marketing. Your brand should be an expression of you and how you want your clients to feel. Use your content to paint a clear picture of your skills and what you offer as a hairstylist. Branding goes hand in hand with consistency. When you post, using the same fonts, colors, and language can help your audience recognize you. They will see your content pop up on their feed and not even have to guess who it is, they will just know because you are consistent with your specific branding. The easiest part is there are apps to make this a breeze – here are some we recommend.
First and foremost is Canva. Canva allows you to pick brand colors, names, and logos when you are making posts, so all of your content looks seamless and recognizable. Second, find an editing app you love to help with lighting correction and formatting your post to fit your feed, like Lightroom. Third, Capcut is great for editing your mic’d up, hair transformations, and educational videos. Lastly, planning days you want to post is as easy as using your calendar app or we recommend Planoly. You can plan out which platform you want to post on which day and how often you want to post on it.
