How to Transition Clients From Clip-Ins to Professional Extensions

Daily Maintenance

Here’s what we recommend:

1. Gently brush them two to three times a day. Start from your ends and work your way up. And be careful when brushing around your scalp where the extensions start!

2. Oil them every day to keep them hydrated.

3. Sleep in a loose braid or ponytail every night to prevent knotting and matting.

Weekly Maintenance

On a weekly basis, apply a hair mask when you wash your extensions to keep them hydrated and soft. Speaking of washing, extensions require a little extra care when it comes to shampooing and conditioning! After washing your extensions, make sure to blowdry at least the roots, and never sleep with wet hair. Ignoring this step can cause mildew to form on your scalp at the base of the extensions–and no one wants that!

Maintenance Appointments

Unlike clip-ins, professional extensions require regular salon appointments to keep them looking their best and protect the client’s natural hair.

Maintenance schedules will vary depending on the extension method:

Wefts: Every 6–8 weeks

K-Tips: Every 12–16 weeks

Tape-Ins: Every 6–8 weeks
