Noticing your hair extensions looking dull, dry, or tangled? These are clear signs they’re due for a much-needed revival treatment to restore their shine, softness, and manageability. Because hair extensions do not receive natural oil from your scalp to keep them hydrated, you MUST hydrate them on your own to avoid decreasing their longevity. Treatments may sound expensive and time-consuming, but they do not have to be! At-home treatments to revive your extensions are the easiest way to get your hair back to looking and feeling good.
Signs Your Extensions Need Treatment
If you have had your extensions for an extended time and start to notice dryness or some breakage, you are most likely due for a treatment. While wear-and-tear is normal with proper care, there are ways to fix it to get more out of your investment and not have to purchase new hair right away. In some cases, mistakes happen! For example, hair extensions can become discolored because of a non-mineral sunscreen, or when we forget to apply leave-in conditioner before entering chlorine/salt water. These things happen, and we are excited to share our favorite products to revive extensions and extend their lifetime further.
Malibu C Wefts and Extensions Treatment
Our all-time favorite product for giving your hair extensions a revival is the Malibu C Wefts and Extensions Wellness Hair Remedy. This product is known to:
Prevent breakage
Remove discoloration due to product buildup, minerals, and other contributing factors
Normalizing chemically and heat-treated hair
This product is a 10-minute process that will bring your extensions back to life. Using the packet properly can remove discoloration, hydrate the hair to avoid tangling, prevent further breakage from happening, and give your extensions more longevity. Simply shampoo and rinse your hair! Then, pour the packet of crystals into your wet hand, emulsify, and apply throughout your hair. Leave this in for five minutes, then rinse and follow up with a hydrating conditioner. We have a step-by-step video on this process! Watch it here! It is one extra simple step during a wash day to give your hair the refresh it needs.
Follow-up Treatment
After using this treatment, your hair should feel much better, but it is important to maintain home care afterwards!
Our typical recommended care is as follows:
Use a hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner always, and avoid strengthening hair products that strip moisture from the hair.
Hair oil from mids to ends every night! Keeping the ends hydrated will prevent breakage and tangling.
Regular maintenance appointments - keeping up with move-ups every 6-8 weeks is crucial to not having prolonged tension on the scalp. Trims quarterly are also necessary for getting rid of normal dead ends that occur with natural hair and extensions.
Gentle yet consistent brushing is a must! Hair extensions require brushing throughout to avoid matting and tangling. This is especially true before and after washing hair.
Use protective sleep styles, like a low ponytail or braid, while sleeping to avoid matting and tangling. A silk pillowcase or sleep cap is recommended to avoid breakage as well!
Utilizing a weekly mask once a week will give your hair an extra boost of hydration.
